Amazon Neptune refreshes the console to simplify database creation

Posted on: May 20, 2020

Amazon Neptune has refreshed the console experience, which includes a single page to create a database, the ability to add Tags during cluster creation, and the ability to choose instance type for Workbench.

The database creation workflow is now a single page with all properties of the database grouped in sections. Additionally, properties that are less frequently used are rolled under an advanced configuration option. This allows customers to quickly create a database. The earlier user experience required customers to navigate through multiple pages before creating the database.

With the management console updates you can add tags as part of the cluster creation. Tags are key-value pairs that allow you to organize your AWS resources into groups. After you have created and applied Tags, customers can use them on the Billing and Cost Management console for cost allocation tracking of resources including Neptune. In earlier releases, tags could be added only after the Neptune cluster was created.

The Neptune Workbench notebook creation workflow gives the flexibility to choose the instance type for the notebook. From the management console, you can choose Notebooks, Create notebook and choose one the available t3 instance types. T3.medium continues to the be default choice for the notebook instance.
