Joliet, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that emergency pavement repairs are currently underway on Chicago Street between Patterson Road and Doris Avenue in Joliet. The repairs are expected to be completed by late Friday afternoon, weather permitting.

The emergency work includes patching, milling, resurfacing, and pavement striping. Due to heavy rains and flooding damage over the weekend, Chicago Avenue is also currently closed as well as the eastbound I-80 exit ramp to southbound Chicago Street. Traffic for the westbound I-80 exit is being directed onto northbound Chicago Street. An alternative route using Richards Street, Mills Road, and U.S. 52/Manhattan Road is recommended.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for travel through this area. Flaggers and signs will be in the work zones, and drivers are urged to obey the speed limits in the area while also watching out for the workers and equipment.
